Principal, Ms. Shampriest Bevel

Dear Bayside Community,

It is my pleasure to introduce myself as the new principal of Bayside 6th Grade Grade Campus. I am honored to have the opportunity to lead a school with such persevering students, an extremely dedicated staff, and a loving school community. I feel very fortunate to be part of this school, supporting both students and families. I am working to ensure a smooth transition for students and staff.

I am a graduate of Norfolk State University, Cambridge College, and The George Washington University. I have been dedicated to the field of education for more than fourteen years. I come to you with experience as an educator in rural, urban and international settings at the middle school level. I have worked with students ranging from 6th through 8th grade in a variety of roles. I have been a science teacher, data team leader, department chair, instructional coach, instructional specialist, and an assistant principal. Most recently, I have served as one of the assistant principals at Great Neck Middle School. You will find that my openness to learn, and my student-centered approach lead my decisions on how to best support students. I am thrilled to bring my skills as an educational leader and partner with this community to ensure the success of our students.

Assistant Principal, Mrs. Jessica Rohmann

ONE team, ONE goal, BREAKING BARRIERS!
I am excited to join the Raider family again! I have served Virginia City Public Schools for 10 yrs. Most recently I was the Administrative Assistant at Bayside Middle School for the 2017-2018 school year. I was a Math Coach at Bayside 6th Grade Campus for 2 yrs and then I spent my previous years at Tallwood High School and Independence Middle School as a Special Education teacher with an emphasis in Math.

I am a local and proud of it. I am a product of Virginia Beach and Chesapeake Public Schools. I graduated from Virginia Wesleyan College where I played field hockey. I earned my Master's in Educational Leadership from The George Washington University.

When I am not with my work family, you can find me at the beach where I enjoy bodyboarding and surfing. In my younger days, I used to compete competitively in bodyboarding, field hockey, soccer, basketball, and softball.

Side note - I am a HUGE DUKE BLUEDEVIL men's basketball FAN!

I embrace challenges, I have that WILL to ensure that all students achieve excellence.

The STRONGEST factor for success is self-esteem:
Believing you can do it,
Believing you deserve it,
and believing you will get it!

My father was in the Air Force and I grew up around the world living in places such as Alaska, Okinawa, Canada, and Germany. I finally graduated from high school in Prince George, VA. My college experience started at Chowan College and then transferred to Old Dominion University graduating with a degree in Health and PE. I began teaching at Lynnhaven Junior High School. Later, I received a Masters in School Administration from Old Dominion University. I became an assistant principal at Great Neck Junior High School. I have been at several middle schools in the VBCPS. In the process of my teaching and administrative career, my wife and I have raised four beautiful children who graduated from VBCPS schools and graduated from universities in Virginia. We are now the proud grandparents of four grandchildren. In our spare time we like to garden and travel outside of the states to warm tropical places.
